Canada. DuPont has reinforced the need to accelerate the progressive withdrawal of hydrofluorocarbons (HCFCs). The company has also urged governments and industries to take action to minimize refrigerant emissions and adopt alternatives that do not affect ozone and decrease global warming potential, where possible.
HCFCs are significantly more ozone-friendly than chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), the first products created that were later replaced by HCFCs. However, the latter also generate greenhouse gas emissions. HCFCs are used primarily in refrigeration and air conditioning applications, where DuPont estimates that 75% of these compounds are used globally.
Alternative refrigerants from DuPont Suva® and ISCEON® have been used in existing systems and new equipment. DuPont has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70% since 1991, with $3 trillion in energy cost savings.
