Southern Cone. Suez Energy International, a subsidiary of Suez, said it plans to increase its presence in Chile. Suez's investments are currently located in the north of that country, where mining production is concentrated.
The firm's intention is to develop new energy projects in southern Chile, thus expanding its operations. "In southern Chile we are also evaluating the possibility of re-entering the Central Interconnected System (SIC)," said Dirk Beeuwsaert, the firm's general manager. It is hoped that projects of this type can be implemented and that the energy difficulties of the population will be solved in the process.
The Andean Thermoelectric Power Plant requires an investment of US$ 300 million to incorporate 150 megawatts into the Norte Grande Interconnected System (SING) and supply Codelco's demand. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2010. (Source: AméricaEconomia.com)
