Sodeca designed a solution to evacuate smoke during cold room fires

Sodeca diseñó una solución para evacuar el humo durante incendios en cámaras frigoríficas

International. The evacuation of smoke during fires in cold rooms presents difficulties due to low temperatures and the risk that the systems will freeze or stop working, Sodeca said.

Likewise, the manufacturer indicated that its solutions for the evacuation of fumes in cold rooms with Sodeca FRIDGE/FLAP motorized dampers are designed to solve these problems. The company specialising in industrial ventilation and smoke evacuation has specifically designed a system of extractors and motorised dampers for use in refrigeration installations, with the capacity for the assembly to work without
problems in temperatures up to -28º.

Despite cold conditions, FRIDGE/FLAP gates open and close in just 30 seconds, and feature a manual emergency opening system in case of electrical failure or breakdown. The dampers are made of materials that guarantee high thermal insulation and prevent heat leakage, ensuring that the right temperature is maintained in the cold room. In addition, they have a system that prevents the joints from freezing, so the gates can operate without interruption despite the demanding conditions of the installation.

In addition to all these features of Sodeca's FRIDGE/FLAP solutions, they are also versatile. They are designed to adapt to refrigeration installations of all kinds, offering smoke evacuation options with roof extractors, vertical or horizontal outlets, or with wall-mounted extractors. Both solutions allow effective evacuation through different methods: ducted evacuation, direct evacuation from the cold room to the outside or evacuation from the plenum, an enclosed space that distributes the air evenly towards the different outlets or ducts.

This Sodeca system of extractors and motorized dampers for cold rooms is approved according to the EN 12101-3 standard and is F400 certified to be able to operate reliably in the event of a fire. In addition, the exhaust fan and gate have been subjected to rigorous testing to ensure their strength and effectiveness in high-risk applications.
