Colombia. At the United Nations headquarters in New York, the Diverplaza Shopping Center received the Sustainability Together Award for its sustainable construction strategy. This award was presented by the collective Women Together.
This project, led by the construction company Kubik, is located in the west of the city, has 15 years of operation and has an annual projection of 17 million visitors. It is considered the best shopping center in the North-West area of the city of Bogotá and an example of sustainable architecture in the country.
Among the characters who have received this recognition are Queen Rania of Jordan, photographer Mario Testino and also Colombian, Shakira, for her work in favor of the environment and sustainability.
The following are some of the sustainable features of the building:
- Recovery and treatment of sewage: reused for toilets.
- Recovery and treatment of water in the food area.
- Rainwater collection tank: These distribute water to the irrigation system of green areas.
- Light harvesting systems: The Shopping Center has sensors that optimize energy use.
- Garbage: A process of classification and recovery of waste is carried out daily, to execute its proper use. With the recycling process, it benefits the local communities that are dedicated to this work.
- At the time of its construction, a strategy was also carried out to reuse building materials in order to reduce waste. Part of the actions implemented included the use of surpluses and reformation of materials.
