International. Daikin said it is investing up to $90 million in a new commercial air conditioning plant in Japan.
According to local portal Nikkei, the HVAC equipment manufacturer will set up a commercial air conditioner manufacturing base on the site of its current Rinkai factory in Sakai, Osaka.
The Rinkai facility, which will start operating in June, will become Daikin's central factory. Production will be transferred from Daikin's Kanaoka plant, also in Sakai, which will later become the company's main development base.
While Daikin has been expanding its global operations in recent years, the Japanese portal says it is the first time in 27 years that it has established a factory in Japan.
