
The Environmental Film Summit 2010 is a film exhibition that will take place within the framework of COP16, which aims to unite and support the efforts of various organizations, artists, activists, young people and governments in the world in the dissemination of the protection needs of the environment and the urgency to act accordingly.
Scientists such as Nobel Laureate Paul Crutzen even claim that recent human activity, including colossal population growth, fast-growing megacities, and the immense use of fossil fuels, have changed the planet to such an extent that we are now in the Anthropocene Era.
Through cinema it is possible to express and communicate this interrelation that exists between ecosystems and species, it is possible to restore the connection of the human being as part of these environments and not as a separate one., The proposal is to use the cinema, to inform, train, propose and educate about environmental issues.
Mexico has a great opportunity this year to show that it is willing to do its part in environmental issues and invite the world to join this action.
This summit will be held in the Riviera Maya, between Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Cancun, coinciding with this being the International Year of Biodiversity. Taking advantage of the spectacular scenarios of this area, it is proposed to use outdoor screens and projections in alternative places, as well as to select propositive materials and open a space of expression through a contest of environmental short films, environmental documentaries and experimental audiovisuals.
The mission of the Environmental Film Summit will be to promote the use of film and video internationally as a catalyst for environmental awareness.
The summit will be held in parallel on the dates of COP16, from December 1 to 7, 2010.
