ADIF's logistics center in Muriedas joins renewables and installs solar panels to generate sanitary water

Adif's logistics centre in Muriedas, in Camargo, has joined renewable energies and has been one of the facilities in which the railway company has implemented energy saving and efficiency measures that have saved the company 4.5 million euros in the period 2009-2010.

Specifically, in the logistics center of Muriedas solar thermal panels have been installed for the generation of domestic hot water, a measure that has also been adopted in Madrid Abroñigal, as reported this Friday in a press release ADIF.

In other ADIF logistics centers, other types of measures of this type have been carried out, such as the improvement of the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings or the reduction of electricity consumption in outdoor lighting.

The implementation of ADIF's 2009-2014 Energy Saving and Efficiency Master Plan will generate annual savings of 533 Gigawatt hours at its conclusion, representing a percentage of 15.2 percent in relation to 2008 consumption.

From 2014, the estimated annual economic savings will be 41.7 million euros, with a reduction in emissions to the atmosphere of 174,514 tons of carbon dioxide.

Regarding last year, ADIF managed to reduce 8,100 tons of carbon dioxide that, added to those of 2009, result in 14,600 since the implementation of the Plan.

The aforementioned Plan, which aims to promote the economic and environmental sustainability of the Spanish railway, contemplates a set of technical measures and new management trends for energy efficiency, in addition to the implementation of innovative renewable energy generation systems, in various stations and logistics centers of ADIF.

In the period 2009-2010, Adif's Energy Saving and Efficiency Master Plan 2009-2014 has led to a total of 91 technical measures, affecting lighting systems, equipment, air conditioning, electricity and traction, among others.

These measures join 47 actions in energy generation systems of renewable origin, such as photovoltaic solar street lamps, photovoltaic solar panels, solar thermal panels for domestic hot water, geothermal energy and vertical axis wind turbines.

The set of technical and renewable measures implemented over the period 2009-2010 benefited a total of 107 Adif facilities, highlighting the boost given to the implementation of renewable energy generation systems that will account for 10 percent of the energy savings corresponding to the measures implemented in 2010.
