The president of Acciona, José Manuel Entrecanales, believes that "Europe cannot lose the world leadership in renewable energies", estimating that it also constitutes "one of the clearest industrial opportunities of the coming decades".
This was indicated by the businessman during his speech at the lunch with businessmen and unions held within the framework of the Spanish-German Summit that took place in Madrid.
In this sense, Entrecanales indicated that China installed 16,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power generation in the last year, compared to the 9,000 MW promoted in the Europe of 27.
The president of Acciona highlighted the role that private investment has in the renewable energy sector, an investment that, as he claimed, "must be guaranteed with favorable returns and limited risks."
"The success of European policies that seek to reduce energy dependence and greenhouse gas emissions depends to a large extent on private sector investment. And private investment is guaranteed with favorable returns and limited risks," he defended in his presentation during lunch.
"In addition, oil at 103 dollars per barrel makes increasingly evident the need to look for alternative energies," added Entrecanales, who in this way opted to make an "important effort" in R & D in renewables and advance in the development of new technologies such as offshore wind, biomass or solar thermoelectric.
