In many areas of the world, and also in times of natural disasters, drinking water and access to power are scarce. The company "The essential element" has designed the Hydra water purifier and a power generator to address these two problems at the same time.
The Hydra is equipped with a 2.88 kW solar panel that runs a pump that drives water through a self-cleaning filtration device (capable of purifying 87,000 liters daily), charges lead-acid gel batteries and runs an electrolyzer that splits some of that water to fill a 0.37 cubic meter tank of pressurized hydrogen.
The fuel cell can be used for communication devices or a camp stove. The entire device can be easily configured and disassembled for easy transport and includes plates so they can connect more solar panels to the device and generate extra power.
