Australian environmentalist Iñigo Wijnen has created a fossil fuel-free vessel, dubbed Gaiasdream, for an expedition across the Pacific this December. The boat runs on discarded vegetable oil, thanks to the sustainable engineering used to create it.
Iñigo spent the last 14 months building the 22-meter-long vessel from wood from sustainable plantations in Australia. The yacht relies on solar panels to satiate your electrical needs. It can accommodate 12 people and carry 7 tons of cargo.
Before setting sail for the ambitious journey, Iñigo will have a temporary exhibition for his creation at the National Museum of Australia. In Sydney Harbour, Gaiasdream will participate in the Classic Wooden Boat Festival 2010. Here, Iñigo will allow people to have knowledge of his creation, and answer their questions.
