United States. American astronauts participated in the repair of an ammonia leak that occurred on the International Space Station (ISS).
The scientists replaced a spare pump in the ISS power system, as well as changed a flow control device, which was estimated to be the reason for the ammonia leak detected in the sector of the station that belongs to the United States.
NASA sources believe that a meteorite or a piece of space junk may have impacted the cooling radiator and caused the leak. Ammonia is used in the station in order to cool the circuits through which the electricity produced by the solar panels passes. The images released by the team confirmed that the exhaust came from the cooling systems, which had already presented problems on November 1.
Experts call this repair one of the fastest in NASA's history, taking five and a half hours after aerospace engineers went into outer space from the station.
