Australia. Every country in the world must make a sacrifice to tackle the problem created by global warming, former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos said in Sydney.
Lagos, who attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) meeting in his capacity as a United Nations observer on the issue of global warming, noted that "all countries are called to make a sacrifice to meet the challenge posed by global warming" and that is independent of their level of development.
At a press conference, the former president said that the great dilemma for countries is to achieve a balance between economic development that allows fighting poverty and the need to avoid the pollution that this development entails.
Chinese President Hu Jintao also indicated that the issue of global warming should be addressed within the framework of the United Nations, which will hold a meeting in December in Indonesia to discuss this issue. (Source: El Mercurio)
