Andean Region. Some of the hydrobiological impacts produced by the hole in the ozone layer are fully understood in this country, which is why the Ministry of Environment and other state entities have signed alliances to curb the emission of ozone-depleting substances and meet the goals assumed in the Montreal Protocol.
According to Xiomara Stavro, regional coordinator of the Ozone Technical Unit of the Ministry of Environment, "we have met beyond the goals. We have a baseline of 2,200 tons of disposal and right now we have only 330 units or tons of ozone-depleting substance consumption left to be eliminated."
This work has made it possible to identify the sectors that most generate these substances, such as the foam sector, gases used in commercial refrigeration, refrigerators, air conditioning, fire extinguishers, some pesticides such as methyl bromide and solvents for cleaning. (Source: El Mundo)
