International. On July 10, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) will announce the winners of its annual LEED Homes Awards.
The LEED Homes Awards recognize residential projects, developers and builders who use LEED to improve quality of life and foster healthier, more resilient communities.
The nominee
Located in Bogotá, the Sky Blue building became the first project in Latin America to be LEEDv4.1 Residential Multifamily certified at the end of 2023.
"In this way, Sky Blue has obtained LEED Earth recognition, which underlines its importance. This distinction has attracted the attention of construction industry leaders and has been praised by the local green building community," the USGBC highlighted.
The project's bold sustainability strategies and remarkable results have been presented by the Bogota Chamber of Commerce at an event focused on eco-urbanism and sustainable construction.
The most important feature of the project is its contribution to decarbonization. Through a thorough bioclimatic design, which influenced site selection, building orientation and geometry, and envelope configuration, Sky Blue offers residents comfortable and healthy indoor conditions year-round without the need for mechanical heating and cooling systems.
In addition, the façade's window-to-wall ratio and expanded polypropylene exterior walls have helped Sky Blue achieve an outstanding energy efficiency result of 13.8% energy savings compared to the ASHRAE 90.1-2016 parameter.
The building also addresses greenhouse gas emissions. More than half of vehicle parking spaces have EV-ready infrastructure, encouraging residents to purchase electric cars.
Now, Sky Blue is once again gaining notoriety by positioning itself as the only project from the region in the race for the renowned award.
"Being the only project from Latin America in this select group shows how Sky Blue continues to contribute to positioning the region and Colombia at the top of sustainable construction worldwide," said Felipe Villa Ruiz, Construction Projects Manager at Anesfe Constructores, responsible for the work.
