Precision Control Implemented for Air Handlers in Sports Complex

Control de precisión para manejadoras de aire en complejo deportivo: caso de éxito

Colombia. LG Electronics announced that it has installed an automation solution for air handlers, the BECON Controller, along with the multi-system integration software, BECON Manager, at a sports complex in Colombia.

This is the so-called Parque del Indio, a swimming center located in Bogota, Colombia, with a capacity of 76 TR. There, a solution that combines BMS, DDC, UMA, and VRF equipment was executed.

Background
The project required a control solution that integrated LG Multi V 5 condenser technology with Weger Special Purpose Air Handling Units (AHUs), while maintaining specific temperature and humidity conditions within the pool area.

After evaluating multiple options, including LG smart controllers and competitors, due to the complexity of the control strategy, the easy integration with LG equipment, and the robustness provided by LG's BECON controllers, the customer opted for this solution.

Another key factor in the definition of the project was the possibility of installation, integration and engineering with a single solution provider, both for the Multi V 5 HR energy-efficient air conditioning units and for the BECON Controllers with the AHUs.

Integration Solutions
Comm. Kits allow the integration of any direct expansion handler into LG's entire line of HVAC solutions, for greater use of inverter technology.

This option also allows for simpler configuration of system operation through a variety of control options.

To control the temperature and humidity conditions of the environment, regulate the airflow delivered by the fan of the controller, and control the air quality, LG's new programmable controller called BECON Controller was used, which consists of an intelligent controller capable of operating autonomously.

This solution enables the integration of pressure, CO2 and temperature sensors, as well as fan speed and actuator control, among other field devices.

Graphical Interface & Customization
LG Electronics stressed that the optimal management of the installations carried out requires a friendly interface for the end user, which in this case will be the project's maintenance staff.

Likewise, the manufacturer specified that the implementation of the BECON Manager program allows the creation of different users with different roles.

"Combining the benefits of the Inverter technology of our Multi V 5 air conditioning equipment applied to third-party air handlers, combined with the programmability and interconnectivity of the BECON Controller and a graphical and friendly interface of the BECON Manager, we have managed to provide a solution that has not only met the needs of our customer, but also but exceeded their expectations," the company said.
