Mexico. Trane has announced that it has completed the expansion of its production facility located in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Thanks to this, the company added 10,000 square meters to its factory of air conditioners for residential use, which will be destined mainly to the US market.
"The expansion represents a 40% growth in exports to the United States and the possibility of generating more than 200 new jobs in the region," said Daniel Córdova, Director of the Trane Monterrey Plant.
Córdova considers that the project constitutes a decisive accolade from the multinational to the Monterrey team.
"This work reinforces the global team's confidence in our ability to meet market expectations. Thanks to this expansion we will be able to meet the growing demand for our products and services inside and outside the country, in addition to boosting the local economy," added the executive.
About the project
Construction of the new facility began in January 2023 and was completed last July. The investment amounted to US$18 million and focused on adapting the facilities for the manufacture of a residential package of 3 to 5 tons, a high-demand equipment in the United States.
"The geographical location of our plant places us right in the middle of the United States and allows us to distribute products to any part of the country, strategically," added Daniel Córdova, who is also the president of the Nuevo León Appliance Cluster.
The manufacture of equipment with the tonnage mentioned above implies the entry of the Monterrey plant into the residential market, since until now it was mainly focused on the production of equipment for the commercial and light commercial markets.
Benefits and nearshoring
Upon completion, Trane plans to increase the volume of its production and services, while shortening its lead times and gaining a more reliable and effective supply chain.
In addition, the multinational has stated that it wants to invest in new technologies and improve its manufacturing processes in order to offer more competitive products and services to its customers.
It should be noted that the expansion of the Trane plant in Monterrey adds to the phenomenon of nearshoring in terms of foreign investment in Nuevo León. Currently, about 30% of the projects in the state are focused on the manufacturing industry.
It is estimated that foreign air conditioning companies have invested more than $1 billion there since 1999.
