International. Emerson released its environmental, social and governance (ESG) report for the period 2021. It also shared its goals of achieving zero emissions in operations by 2030 and net zero in its value chain by 2045.
Thus, the sustainability strategy of the renowned company is focused on achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 by 2045.
Lal Karsanbhai, Emerson's President and CHIEF Executive Officer, commented, "We helped enable the low-carbon transition for some of the largest companies and most critical industries around the world. Our goal of net zero emissions is a vital step as we evolve our business and contribute to a more sustainable world."
In this regard, Emerson has aligned its sustainability approach with the Net-Zero Standard set by the Science Based Target (SBTi) initiative, the leading organization driving the adoption of science-based goals.
Scope of objectives
By 2030, Emerson plans to reach the goal of zero in its own operations for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and drive a 25% reduction in emissions from its Scope 3 value chain, compared to the 2021 baseline. These short-term objectives have been approved by the SBTi as consistent with the Paris agreement.
In addition, the company has also committed to validating its long-term goal of net zero emissions by 2045, in line with the SBTi's net zero emissions standard.
Mike Train, Emerson's senior vice president and chief sustainability officer, said: "In addition to the depth of our own sustainability roadmap, Emerson's products, software and services help our customers, suppliers and partners achieve their sustainability goals. In the face of climate change, we believe that driving adoption at scale of energy transition solutions can realize a net-zero future."
