Mexico. In the town of Chihuahua, a new production plant of the Dutch multinational company Heineken was officially inaugurated, which is classified as one of the most sustainable in the world.
After an investment of more than 500 million dollars, the factory will operate 100% with renewable energy, create 300 direct jobs in Chihuahua and manufacture 600 million liters of beer per year using 30% less water, compared to any conventional brewery.
The supplier of the photovoltaic glass was the Spanish company Onyx Solar to be chosen to cover the facades of the new Production Center of Heineken, also following the corporate image of the Dutch firm: red, green and transparent photovoltaic glass, specially designed for this plant.
In particular, the glass of Onyx Solar was installed as a ventilated façade and curtain wall in the buildings of the complex, contributing to the improvement of thermal insulation – very necessary in Mexico – to the controlled passage of natural light, to the filter of harmful ultraviolet radiation, and infrared, and clean energy generation, which will help Heineken reduce both its operating costs and carbon footprint.
In the words of Dolf Van Der Brink, President and CEO of Heineken Mexico, "the sustainability attributes of this factory in Chihuahua are not only unique in the world, but will also be a reference on a global scale for Heineken". In this sense, the executive pointed out that the design characteristics and technological advances implemented in the plant will promote the exploitation of a "circular economy" model, with 100% of the waste generated, reused.
For his part, Diego Cuevas, Director of Business Development of Onyx Solar in North America said that "Heineken is a leader in its sector, and with this project demonstrates its strongest commitment to sustainable development and innovation." "We are very grateful for its commitment to Onyx Solar as a technological partner for the project" – highlights Or.
