Panama. The National Secretariat of Energy (SNE) reported that Panama has a new regulation that regulates the entry into the local market of air conditioning equipment type Inverter, Split, window and central.
This new regulation, which has been in force since December 28, 2017, was prepared by the SNE in conjunction with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Sectoral Technical Committees, of which both public and private entities were part, in the company of the academy.
The regulation expects to generate an impact on savings estimated at US$100 million by 2020, and will allow the final consumer to know the real level of energy efficiency, placing quality products on the market and matching the savings references for such equipment, according to Eng. Rebeca Ramírez, of the electricity department of the SNE.
These technical regulations require compliance with the minimum energy efficiency indices contained in the Technical Standards of such equipment and establish the energy efficiency labels that must be visible to the consumer.
With this publication, the transition time begins to govern, for the air conditioning equipment subject to these technical regulations and will have a period of up to a year and a half for businesses to adapt their imports and the equipment for sale carry their label, as established by Executive Decree 398 of 2013 and Law 69 of 2012.

"The elaboration of this Technical Standard responds to the need to increase energy savings and the preservation of energy resources; in addition to protecting the consumer from products of lower quality and excessive consumption of electrical energy that could reach the market, "said the engineer Ramírez.
