Colombia. In Rionegro, a town located about 50 minutes from Medellín, one of the largest photovoltaic installations in that country is already in operation.
This facility is located on the sunroof of a renowned chocolate factory in Colombia. The installation has more than 8,000 photovoltaic modules or solar panels located on more than 14 thousand m². The project is an invention of the energy generating company that ventures into Eastern Antioquia called Celsia, an entity that will also be responsible for its operation and maintenance.
The installed capacity of the system is 2,132 kWp and will produce 3,150,964 kWh / year of clean energy with which they will meet 15% of the consumption of the factory. Additionally, the system is complemented by 74 inverters that allow the conversion of current energy into energy suitable for conventional consumption.
Celsia explained that with the energy production of this photovoltaic system, 604 tons of CO2 will no longer be emitted, which is equivalent to planting a forest of 40 hectares per year.
Ricardo Sierra, leader of Celsia, said that "this particular system was an important challenge for the commercial and technical team of our company, both for the magnitude of the project, the largest we have installed so far, and for what Grupo Nutresa and The National Chocolates represent as companies with a great commitment to sustainability. We wanted to give them a solution that they would be proud of, that would contribute to their productivity and above all that would add to their commitment to the environment. We made a great team between the companies, and today we can say with satisfaction that we achieved it and that this plant will be a benchmark in clean energy in the country."
