International. Trane announced the purchase of Calmac Corporation, a privately held company specializing in cold energy technologies, including IceBank storage tanks.
The brand's ice storage tanks are integrated with Trane's commercial HVAC systems to lower energy consumption. Ice storage tanks store energy, similar to a battery, which is then used to cool commercial buildings at times when the cost of energy is high. This reduces the energy supply, and also the operating costs for building owners and allows for better use of renewable forms of energy.
"We are pleased to add Calmac to our product portfolio. With them we are well positioned to offer customers better options to reduce energy and operating costs and thus capitalize on business opportunities in the multi-billion dollar energy services market," said Donny Simmons, president of Ingersoll Rand's commercial HVAC division.
"CALMAC is pleased to join Trane. We know that with the support and investments of Trane and its parent, Ingersoll Rand, Calmac will be able to expand the availability and distribution of our products, serving new and existing customers with the energy storage and ice solutions they deserve," said Mark MacCracken, CEO of Calmac.
More than 4,000 companies and institutions in 60 countries use and rely on Calmac's thermal energy storage to cool their buildings, including some major ones in the United States, such as Rockefeller Center and the Credit Suisse Building in New York and even the headquarters of Ingersoll Rand North America in Davidson. North Carolina.
Efficient thermal storage systems reduce energy use when it is at its peak, by about 35 percent by decreasing the need for power plants (carbon emitters) that operate when there is a high demand for electricity.
Calmac operates in Fair Lawn, N.J. The value of this acquisition was not disclosed.
