Colombia. The Colombian Council of Sustainable Construction, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), confirmed that between January and November of this year, Colombia has 6.1 million square meters of sustainable projects that have mobilized $23 billion pesos in investments.
The market showed an annual growth of 168% in the registered area and had the participation of +200 investors. This area consists of 86 real estate projects already certified in sustainable construction with the LEED tool (8 in the Platinum level, 41 Gold, 24 Silver and 13 Certified), totaling 1.3 million square meters and another 249 in the process of being certified, representing 4.8 million square meters.
Of the projects certified in the last six years, 54% correspond to office space; 24% to trade; and 5% to health services, among others. In the projects that are about to be certified there is a greater diversification of uses and there are even residential projects in progress.
The CCCS assures that the success of LEED in Colombia is due to several factors. On the one hand, the sustainable construction movement in Colombia has benefited from visionary leaders who have implemented sustainability principles into their business practices. On the other hand, the LEED construction and design guide has positioned itself as a vital tool that allows compliance with mandatory regulations, such as Resolution 549/15 of the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory, and also materialize real estate projects with minimum additional costs, high levels of energy efficiency and optimal periods of return on investment.
