Johnson Controls donated $100,000 to ASHRAE Research during the 2016 ASHRAE Annual Conference in St. Louis. The funds will help fund research that supports the development of safety standards for the use of medium flammable and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants.
"ASHRAE is very grateful for johnson Controls' contribution to our research on A2L refrigerants," said David Underwood, president of ASHRAE 2016-17. "These funds go a long way in our research that is vital to establishing a more robust factual basis on the properties and use of flammable refrigerants. Johnson Controls has a strong history of supporting ASHRAE Research, serving as a Platinum Circle donor."
"The refrigerants Johnson Controls chooses for our products are tailored to our customers' needs and the environment, based on safety, efficiency, reliability, availability and cost," said Laura Wand, global vice president of chillers at Johnson Controls. "The company believes that flammable or toxic refrigerants should not be used if a safer alternative is already available and offers the same performance or better efficiency."
