International. Samsung Electronics made a presentation in which it has taken stock of a year of innovation in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT), WP Hong, president of Samsung SDS and director of its solutions division, spoke during the last technology fair, CES 2016.
The executive commented that the company "has achieved a lot in a very short time." The Internet of Things is currently "synchronized with real life and bringing real value to consumers, businesses and society as a whole."
Hong has described Samsung's devices, components, platforms and security solutions as key ingredients that "bring intelligence to the everyday objects in our lives."
Hong has also shown the growing range of Samsung devices and applications that are already equipped with IoT technologies for the Smart Home of today, working with the SmartThings ecosystem. The new Samsung family Hub refrigerator, with its large 21.5" LED screen, can be used for food management, as a family exchange point for notes and photographs and as an entertainment center. It even allows you to check on the user's mobile device what is in the refrigerator, thanks to its integrated cameras.
During the conference, Samsung has also presented new components such as the ultra-thin and flexible high-capacity battery and the Bio-Processor, a powerful and extremely small all-in-one chip for health monitoring.
On the other hand, Hong explained that Samsung's IoT strategy is to promote "openness, interoperability and cross-sectoral collaboration", given that these are basic aspects for the success of the IoT. The uninterrupted connectivity of IoT devices is another important factor in ensuring a good IoT experience, Hong said. Samsung is working with its industry partners in the Open Interconnect Consortium to build a truly open connectivity structure, called IoTivity.
Samsung believes in an open collaborative approach, and that is why it has presented another solution: Samsung Smart Home Cloud API, which allows you to integrate any Samsung home device prepared for the IoT in any IoT ecosystem.
The Internet of Things "is generating huge amounts of data," Hong says, making the development of "incredibly powerful security solutions" crucial. However, according to Hong, "there can only be one owner of IoT data: our users."
