United States. At the White House, the Obama Administration recently recognized Daikin Industries Ltd. for its continued commitment to reducing emissions of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and other far-reaching greenhouse gases that can contribute to climate change.
The White House event was hosted by Dr. Ernest Moniz, Secretary of Energy, and Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Shinya Okada, Executive Officer of Daikin Industries Ltd., stated that "Daikin is committed to the future development and production of a complete line of HVAC systems using environmentally friendly technologies. We are grateful that our efforts have been recognized by President Obama's Administration, and we feel that Daikin can contribute to the private sector leadership that is needed for global climate protection."
In addition, Daikin made three specific announcements at the White House event:
• Goodman will begin production and sale of the first high-efficiency Terminal Package Air Conditioning (PTAC) systems using the next-generation refrigerant, HFC-32.
• Daikin will continue its efforts to strictly control and eliminate the by-products of emissions of HFC-23, a high global warming potential (GWP) material created during the production of HCFC-22.
• The company also reiterated the announcement it made last month offering manufacturing companies free access globally to 93 patents to encourage others to develop and commercialize air conditioners and heat pumps that use HFC-32 as a single refrigerant component.
