International. Ingersoll Rand announced a commitment to cut its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in half by 2020, investing $500 million in energy efficiency to address the problem of climate change.
With this investment, the company will introduce products throughout its industrial and air conditioning portfolio, significantly more efficient operationally and energetically. It also expects to achieve a 35% reduction in the greenhouse gas footprint at the company's offices, manufacturing plants and vehicle fleet by 2020.
"To achieve energy efficiency, action is needed now, this may be the most effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Michael W. Lamach, president and CHIEF Executive Officer of Ingersoll Rand. "We are leading our industry towards a more sustainable world and manifesting to our customers, employees and shareholders that our future products will be in line with our legacy of efficient, comfortable and sustainable solutions. When we create more sustainable options, we improve our operational footprint globally and continue to develop options with lower greenhouse gas emissions, which will benefit our customers and the environment."
The company also reported that it will reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions by reducing its energy consumption, investing in technology and improving the fuel economy of its vehicle fleet. This includes: Continuing to modernize facilities with new operationally and energy-efficient equipment. Change vehicle fleet acquisition requirements to include options with lower fuel consumption when purchasing or leasing new vehicles. Reduce the use of foaming agents with high global warming potential.
