Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan Government recently announced that from this year the Nicaraguan Mandatory Technical Standards will enter into force, a series of regulations for the import of technical equipment that seek to promote energy saving policies in the country, both in the commercial and industrial spheres.
The parameters established there will be mandatory and will apply to companies engaged in imports of household appliances, fluorescent bulbs, business and residential refrigeration equipment and incandescent lamps.
Emilio Rappaccioli, Minister of Energy of that country, emphasized the importance for the Energy Cabinet of this process and the implementation of the regulations. The goal, according to the official, is to lower energy consumption rates and reduce the impact that the constant increases in oil and its derivatives mean for Nicaraguans.
Perhaps one of the most remarkable elements of this project is the participation of the private sector and universities in the design of a strategy approved with the Central American region that truly promotes energy savings thanks to imports of mandatorily high-efficiency equipment.
