Sustainable applications
Luz María Karg, leader of DuPont's Nonwoven Fibers division in Mexico, pointed to the Tyvek® brand thermowelded olefin as one of the examples of a product with innovative applications in terms of sustainability in the construction industry. He said that despite being a product developed several decades ago, Tyvek® has new applications that make it a sustainable material thanks to its properties as an air conditioning material.
Tyvek® can be used as a protective layer on walls and facades in buildings, able to reduce external drafts to rooms, keeping warm during the winter season, and letting fresh air through during the summer. Due to its characteristics, it achieves significant savings since less energy is required from heating systems or air conditioners, in addition to protecting the insulation materials and extending their useful life, as it keeps away the moisture generated by conventional walls.
