ELECTROLUX CONTINUES PLASTIC WASTE COLLECTION IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
The Electrolux Group, aware of the problem of marine pollution from plastic waste, is moving forward with the Vac from the Sea campaign. Currently, the marine expedition formed by Electrolux and the 5Gyres association, which began its journey on March 3, is sailing through Chilean waters to collect plastic waste in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
They are accompanied by the American Brit Liggett, winner of a contest in which Electrolux and 5Gyres were looking for a new crew member capable of starting this adventure and being able to tell it on the blog. Their exploits can be followed in http://www.electrolux.se/Innovation/Campaigns/Vac-from-the-sea/.
The problem of marine pollution that Electrolux has been denouncing for months continues to spread. Last Wednesday, the environmental association Legambiente denounced the existence of an island of plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea of the size of 500 tons, which floats between Spain, Italy and France and could be even larger than the one already identified in the Pacific Ocean.
Vac from the sea is a pioneering initiative in which Electrolux, with the help of several local organizations from various countries, has collected plastics from the oceans and seas of the world to manufacture vacuum cleaners with them. So far five vacuum cleaners have been manufactured from various of the world's seas and oceans.
The project aims to raise awareness of the immediate and urgent need for the world to be more careful with the plastics it produces and consumes. The initiative aims to draw attention to the problem of marine pollution caused by the plastics we throw into the sea, and thus, at the same time, combat the shortage of recycled plastics on land, necessary to manufacture sustainable household appliances.
Green vacuum cleaners
Electrolux, in addition to launching this project to raise awareness, has actually created a Green range of vacuum cleaners that take care of both the home and the environment, with vacuum cleaners made of up to 70% post-consumer recycled plastic and without PVC. Electrolux has launched its new range of eco-friendly vacuum cleaners, in the UltraOne, UltraSilencer, UltraActive and ErgoSpace models. All have the highest quality but also with innovative environmentally friendly features. The main one is that all the vacuum cleaners in this range are made between 55 and 70% of post-consumer recycled plastics.
