The wind sector recorded the lowest growth in seven years in 2010

In 2010, 1,515.9 megawatts (MW) of wind power were installed in Spain, representing an increase of 8% compared to 2009, the "slowest growth since 2003 in absolute terms", according to the Wind Business Association (AEE).

The installed capacity at the end of last year stood at 20,676.04 MW, a figure slightly higher than that set out in the Renewable Energy Plan 2005-2010, which amounts to 20,155 MW.

PREPA has attributed the slowdown in the sector to the impact of the entry into force of the pre-allocation register in mid-2009 and to the uncertainty due to the lack of a regulatory framework that establishes the rules of the game from 2013.

The wind industry has recalled that less than 3,000 MW registered in the pre-allocation register remain to be commissioned. From then on, he denounces, neither the remuneration that the facilities will receive, nor the system that will be used, is known, "which stops the installation of wind farms from beginning for the future."

By autonomous communities, Castilla y León was, for the second consecutive year, the region that installed the most wind energy in 2010, with 917 MW, equivalent to 60.4% of all new installed capacity in Spain. It was followed by Catalonia, with 326.87 MW, and Andalusia (139.41 MW).

The employer also highlighted that during the past year numerous communities (Andalusia, Aragon, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Catalonia, Extremadura and Galicia) carried out wind tenders in 2010, awarding a wind power of more than 7,000 MW.

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES LEADS THE RANKING.

In terms of development companies, PREPA pointed out that Iberdrola Renovables continued to lead the Spanish ranking at the end of 2010, with a total of 5,168.50 MW of power, followed by Acciona, with 4,036.82 MW.

Iberdrola Renovables was also the one that installed the most power in 2010, adding 289.22 new MW. The companies EDPR and Govade also installed more than 200 MW last year.

Among the manufacturers, Gamesa's wind turbines added 760.7 new MW in 2010, maintaining this company the first position of classification, with a total of 9,846.34 MW installed at the end of last year. In second place is Vestas (3,528.7 MW installed) and in third place, Alstom Wind (1,559.85 MW). (EUROPA PRESS)
