The Renewables Foundation sees an "absolute nonsense" the energy "turn" to reform pensions

The Renewables Foundation has censured the "turn" in energy policy of the Government by considering prolonging the life of nuclear power plants to save the negotiations to reform pensions, which it has considered as an "absolute nonsense" and "one more proof" of the "lack of seriousness" of the energy debate.

For the foundation, a pact on energy does not happen to be agreed by the social agents and the Government, nor to be included within another major reform, such as pensions.

In this sense, he wanted to make clear his "surprise and indignation" for justifying this "turn" of the Government's energy policy in order to save "a few hundred jobs", when in the renewable energy sector more than 30,000 jobs have been lost in the last two years.

Thus, the Ideas Foundation called for an energy pact that includes a "rigorous" policy of savings and efficiency, a decarbonization of the energy system, a "drastic" reduction in dependence on the outside world and a commitment to technologies that offer for the future a downward evolution of costs.

As immediate short-term measures, it proposes comprehensive energy planning; a renewable energy law; an energy saving and efficiency law; and establish an environmental taxation under the principle that "the polluter pays", among others. (EUROPA PRESS)
