United States. A new white paper from consultancy Navigant Research analyses the results of the survey of 202 people on the proliferation of smart building and energy efficiency technologies in the commercial segment, providing insights into the customer's point of view.
The growth of sensing, automation and control devices, as well as software and services, highlights the transition in commercial building management towards greater strategic decision-making around cost containment, energy efficiency, sustainability and occupant comfort, Navigant said.
These technologies are also driving the importance of the Building2Grid concept, which offers the potential to unlock two-way power flows and services related to the non-energy package in commercial buildings. According to the paper, smart building technologies and energy efficiency are critical to setting the stage for the Building2Grid concept.
To take advantage of developing business opportunities with the "energy cloud," building owners and facility executives must manage energy-efficient equipment within the facility through automation and control technologies that are driven by sophisticated analytics and software services. According to the report, a broad and diverse landscape of suppliers shows that early adopters are investing in and benefiting from smart building and energy efficiency technologies; however, in order for market transformation to become a reality, there needs to be a broad market share penetration of these solutions, the report says.
