Spain. As a benchmark for the automation industry in Latin America, the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero revealed data indicating that hotels could save around 287 million euros a year if they track and control energy consumption in real time.
This would mean that the costs of the energy bill, which reach 1,146 million euros per year, could fall by 25%. This would mean a saving of one euro for each stay, if an average of 55% of the total available rooms in that country is made.
In 2011, four-star hotels reported the largest number of overnight stays, at 129.5 million. This category reports about 14 euros in costs per room, 4 of those are spent on energy use. Per year, the total value per room is 5,110 euros.
