United States. New York City's renowned Empire State Building posted significant energy savings of 5% for $2.4 million in its first year of the plan it developed for that purpose.
The famous construction hopes to save 4,000 metric tons of carbon, something similar to 750 hectares of pine forest. Once the transformation process of all the spaces of the building is completed, it will save US$4.4 million per year and reduce energy consumption by 38% and carbon emissions by 105,000 metric tons for the next 15 years.
The project, in which Johnson Controls participated, included the renovation of the 6,500 windows, adaptation chiller, new controls and an online energy management system for tenants.
