Spain. The managers of the sports venues begin to become aware of the importance of hosting sustainable projects that allow better use of the resources of the facilities, reduce energy expenditure and help the environment.
For this reason, in the Camp Nou stadium, of the F.C Barcelona, tests are already being carried out to implement an energy management project financed by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union, which seeks to encourage the use of technologies for large buildings and facilities for public use.
This automation initiative will seek to develop a management system that provides the possibility of making the structure of the building more efficient, energetically speaking, from a holistic point of view. The system is based on interoperability that allows the management of heterogeneous sources and loads such as ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, among others, as well as renewable energy, electric cars, etc.
The sustainable energy management project R&D BEAMS (Buildings Energy Advanced Management System), which has a budget of 2.7 million euros (about US$3.7 billion), is in charge of carrying out the tests, in which leading entities such as ETRA, Barcelona Digital and Sodexo participate, in addition to other international partners, such as the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, the company Thales and the University of Salento of Italy and the National Technical University of Athens.
