Colombia. In one of the most important cities on the North Coast, Barranquilla, the sale of mini split air conditioning systems has increased significantly, due to the strong heat wave that its inhabitants are experiencing these days. According to local merchants, sales in the month of June have increased by approximately 30-40% compared to May.
Merchants in the city agree that the increase in sales is due to the need for offices to keep their work area cool, although home sales have also increased. In some appliance stores, up to 95% of total sales correspond to air conditioning systems, equivalent to the commercialization of about 25 equipment per day.
According to the statistics portal Datamyne.com, Colombia imported between January and April 2011 a total of 46,397 mini split air conditioning systems. China is the country that exports this kind of equipment to that nation the most with 90% of the total amount, followed by South Korea (6%) and the United States (2%).
In 2010, the South American nation imported a total of 194,712 systems, with China being the main exporter with 83%.
