United States. A new investment, worth another $204 million, was made by Google and Citigroup for the High Wind Energy Center (AWEC) located in Southern California, bringing the total to $314 million for the project.
The Alta V Project, which will be the main beneficiary of this new investment, has a generation of 168 megawatts of electricity. Initially, both companies had put US$55 million on the table in the Alta IV phase of the project.
The Power Center produces a total of 720 megawatts, according to Terra-Gen Power, project developer and subsidiary of ArcLight Capital Partners and Global Infrastructure Partners. In addition, it is expected that by the end of this year 300 megawatts more will be added and thus raise production to 1,020 megawatts.
Once the wind power project is completed, it will generate 1,550 megawatts of electricity, and there is already a contract to purchase all of the energy generated by the project from Edison, through its subsidiary Southern California Edison.
Rick Needham, Google's director of Green Business Operations, commented in an official statement that "we are particularly excited about AWEC as it will be one of the largest wind energy hubs in the world."
Google invested more than $780 million in clean energy, with more than $700 million this year, according to the company.
