Among the speakers of this day it is worth mentioning the participation of Santiago González, director of the Technical Office of Daikin AC Spain, who analyzed the maintenance of the air conditioning systems of buildings with R22 refrigerants and the problems arising from its prohibition in terms of scarcity, price increases and existing alternatives. "For years we were aware that the commercialization of R22 would come to an end and, some before and others after, we look for solutions for our customers. Now is the time to know how to differentiate ourselves from the competition to get new customers and retain those who currently use R22," said Santiago González.
According to the new European Regulation 1005/2009, since January 1, 2010 it is no longer possible to find pure R-22 and, as of January 1, 2015, the ban will be extended to the use of recycled HCFCs for the maintenance and recharging of any refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
During his speech, Santiago González mentioned some of the existing alternatives to replace the old equipment with R22 with new more efficient ones and highlighted Daikin's commitment to the new VRV Replacement range. Also, during the technical talk Gonzales highlighted the importance of informing customers about the subsidies that encourage the replacement of industrial equipment that uses R-22 by more modern ones that also contribute to minimizing the energy consumption of buildings.
To conclude, the last part of the talk was dedicated to a practical case about replacing an old air conditioning system with a new one that would adapt to the current requirements in terms of refrigerant. Specifically, a success story about the installation of a Daikin VRV Replacement system at the Madrid Institute of Development (IMADE) was addressed. To comment in more detail on this real example, we also had the collaboration of Lorenzo López Arroyo, head of Exploitation and Maintenance of IMADE.
