Europe. Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and Denmark's Energy and Transport Minister Jakob Nielsen signed an agreement establishing the Nordic country's interest in Brazilian ethanol.
According to the information provided by BBC Brazil, the treaty also provides for the cooperation of both nations on issues such as renewable energy and energy efficiency, where Denmark is a leader in the world. As a member country of the European Union, Denmark has until 2010 to increase 5.75% of biofuels in the total fuel consumed by the country's transport sector.
Currently, between 40% and 50% of the country's energy matrix is composed of renewable sources, mainly wind energy and biomass.
The Danish economy grew 70% in the last 25 years, so its energy demand is directly related to that figure, according to official data. (Source: AméricaEconomía.com)
