International. The award-winning project is Sky Blue, a residential building located in the Colombian capital, which had previously received the LEEDv4.1 Residential Multifamily certification.
The 2024 LEED Homes Awards are presented annually by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to recognize projects, developers, and home builders that exemplify leadership in the global residential green building market.
Projects awarded in 2024 include affordable, market-rate single-family and multi-family housing developments in South America, the United States, Asia, and Europe. They are among the more than 46,000 residential projects that have been certified under the LEED green building rating system, and in 2023 there was a nearly 5% increase in new LEED residential project registrations.
"LEED homes are energy efficient and resilient, reducing energy costs and increasing their value, while having a positive impact on human and environmental health," said Peter Templeton, USGBC President and CEO. "I congratulate this year's honorees for their commitment to building healthy, sustainable, resilient and affordable housing to meet the needs of their communities. Their example is critical to decarbonizing residential real estate and bringing the benefits of green buildings to homeowners and tenants everywhere."
Award to Sky Blue
Newly named Project of the Year, Sky Blue was the first LEED v4.1 certified residential multi-family building in Latin America. This important distinction has attracted the attention of leaders in the construction industry and has been praised by the local green building community.
The most important feature of the project is its contribution to decarbonization. Through a thorough bioclimatic design, which influenced site selection, building orientation and geometry, and envelope configuration, Sky Blue offers residents comfortable and healthy indoor conditions year-round without the need for mechanical heating and cooling systems.
In addition, the façade's window-to-wall ratio and expanded polypropylene exterior walls have helped Sky Blue achieve an outstanding energy efficiency result of 13.8% energy savings compared to the ASHRAE 90.1-2016 parameter.
The building also addresses greenhouse gas emissions. More than half of vehicle parking spaces have EV-ready infrastructure, encouraging residents to purchase electric cars.
