International. Modine recently announced that several of its HVAC products for the K-12 market are now UL60335 certified.
The company noted that, in this way, it anticipates the new regulations that will come into force on January 1, 2025, when new products must be certified according to UL60335 for new construction.
In addition, any equipment that uses A2L refrigerants must also be certified as well.
"At Modine, we strive to maintain strict standards of safety, quality and sustainability for our products," said Joe Ellison, general manager of schools for Modine's IAQ division.
"By testing and certifying our products to the highest safety standards, we ensure that we comply with regulations and meet industry demand. Achieving UL60335 compliance now also prepares us to incorporate A2L refrigerants throughout our school product line."
Certified Products
- Airedale ClassMate and SchoolMate Unit Fans: These are air or water-powered heat pumps that come with optional energy recovery and dehumidification controls. For customers looking to upgrade or renovate their existing buildings, these products provide a cost-effective solution to incorporate heat pump technology while improving indoor air quality.
- Airedale Sentinel Vertical Unit Fan – ideal for schools that need to improve the indoor air quality of their classrooms. It works in conjunction with a school's central cooling plant or boiler. The unit provides the right amount of fresh air ventilation while minimizing energy consumption.
- Airedale Ductless Mini-Split Roof Cassette: Provides cooling, heating, or both. As a hydronic alternative to variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, these ductless split units are designed to work efficiently with MERV 10 filters without losing any pressure drop. The mini-split ceiling cassette is available with AC batteries or electric heating. Operating quietly on suspended ceilings, cassettes are ideal for classrooms, offices, laboratories or any environment where space is at a premium and low noise is essential.
- Airedale Varsity / Valedictorian: Eliminates cross-contamination of the air between spaces, compared to ducted applications. The total economization mode allows customers to enjoy free outdoor air cooling during favorable seasons.
"Providing excellent indoor air quality remains a priority for us, and having solutions that already meet the next standards is a win-win for both contractors and end users," said Ellison. "While most of the changes will go unnoticed by the end user, these updates to our equipment help ensure the highest level of security for our products."
