Mayekawa celebrates a century of entrepreneurial life in 2024

Mayekawa celebra un siglo

International. This year, the Japanese company Mayekawa & Co, founded in 1924 in Tokyo by Kisaku Maekawa, celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Working under the premise of the "environment that allows the company to operate", Mayekawa worked during its early years to position itself in Japan. At the international level, one of its first milestones was the delivery to the former Soviet Union of 12 meat freezing machines of 100 tons per day and 12,000 tons of cold storage plants with liquid pump recirculation systems.

In the 1960s, the company launched its Mycom trademark and established its first overseas subsidiary, Mayekawa de Mexico S.A. During the following years, other affiliates, representative offices and subsidiaries were opened in cities such as Los Angeles, São Paulo, Caracas and Guayaquil, among others in various countries around the globe.

By 1976, the company built a set of refrigeration systems at Tokyo Suisan Terminal Co, a facility that was considered the largest cold store in the world at the time.

With the global increase in the production volume of petrochemicals in the 80s, the gas compressor was increasingly used on an industrial level. As a result, Mayekawa developed almost all types of gas compression technologies applicable to processes in chemical companies.

In this way, the company not only consolidated its position in the Asian industrial refrigeration markets, but also managed to strengthen its presence in Latin America by opening subsidiaries in cities such as Bogota, Lima, Cuernavaca and Santiago de Chile.

Later, in the 1990s, the company developed the 160V-320V screw compressor series. In addition to compressors, its industrial innovation processes allowed the development of freezers and automated machines for meat processing.

In addition, the subsidiary Mayekawa Central America was established in Costa Rica and 40 refrigeration units based on natural refrigerant were provided for the stages of the Nagano Olympic Games.

The new millennium
Starting in 2008 and in the following years, plants and representative offices were opened in Aruja, Brazil, Panama City, Guatemala City and Havana, as well as in multiple cities around the world.

Similarly, a new plant was established in the city of Katy, United States, integrating the refrigeration assembly plant in Nashville with the production plant of chemical package systems in Los Angeles.

Today, the multinational Mayekawa and its Mycom brand are considered global benchmarks in the manufacture of compressors and refrigeration equipment.

The company not only has a presence in continents such as Asia, Europe and the Americas, but also continues to work on technological innovations that allow it to expand its range of solutions for various business verticals, worldwide.
