Next Generation Cooling: Theme of World Refrigeration Day 2023

International. World Refrigeration Day will be celebrated on June 26 and this year has as its main theme: "Next generation cooling: the future is in our hands".

World Refrigeration Day celebrates the people and technologies responsible for creating and maintaining the world we live in, a world that depends on temperature-controlled environments. The event has the worldwide support of industry, professional groups, scientific and engineering associations, as well as governments and individuals, who carry out different educational campaigns to celebrate this day.

Titled 'Next Generation Cooling', the WRD 23 campaign will focus on the future of refrigeration technology, the industry, the people who work in it and those who benefit from refrigeration. Building on last year's theme "Cooling Matters", this year's campaign will look ahead with the aim of raising awareness of how the modern cooling industry is adapting and evolving to meet the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, providing the growing demand for low-carbon cooling and heating solutions in a warm climate.

State-of-the-art cooling is important because it can help reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions from cooling systems, which are increasingly used as the world becomes warmer and wetter. For example, according to the International Energy Agency, air conditioners account for nearly 20% of the total electricity used in buildings around the world today, and their use is expected to skyrocket over the next three decades, becoming one of the main drivers of global electricity. electricity demand

Supporting next-generation refrigeration solutions is, of course, the workforce; people working in the sector. "As an industry, we need to recruit, train and retain people equipped with the knowledge and skills that a modern, forward-thinking industry requires," explains Stephen Gill, founder of World Refrigeration Day. Gill continues, "Just as no one will expect the cooling solutions we supply in the future to be the same as those of the past, no one should expect the workforce to be the same. This year's campaign is an opportunity to showcase what we're doing now to ensure we have the diverse, highly skilled workforce our future industry needs."

The future is in our hands. Next Generation Cooling will tell the story of how our well-being depends on sustainable cooling and heating, and how cooling technology choices and an evolving industry can safeguard the well-being of future generations.

World Refrigeration Day is an initiative that was born in 2019 Join the celebration of the global community using the hashtags #NextGenCooling and WREFD23.
