"Our effort to achieve RoHS 3 compliance is not only to maintain the certification requirements for Conformitè Europëenne (CE), but also to meet the company's unwavering commitment to environmental management," says Vince Palmer, vice president of operations at Reliable Controls. "Our philosophy is to source raw materials sustainably and manufacture products that minimize both our impact on the environment and the environmental footprint of buildings around the world."
EU RoHS 3 specifies maximum permitted levels of 10 restricted substances in the manufacture of electrical and electronic devices: cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, butylbenzyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate and diisobutyl phthalate. The intention of the RoHS Directive is to limit the spread of these substances in the environment as pollutants and to reduce occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.
Parallel to RoHS compliance, Reliable Controls follows the WEEE Directive, which sets targets for the design of electronic products with environmentally safe recycling and recovery in mind.
