Latin America. Danfoss announced that DSH scroll compressors for use with R454B and R452B refrigerants are already a popular choice for commercial chillers and roof systems using R410A, with Intermediate Discharge Valve (IDV) technology to improve partial load cooling efficiency.
The option to use new low GWP refrigerants was driven by the progressive reduction in the EU of high GWP refrigerants, which limits availability and increases the price of R410A.
Meanwhile, in countries where the GWP of refrigerant is already taxable, switching to R454B or R452B will provide savings in tax value of 78% and 67% respectively. The multi-refrigerant compatibility of the compressors, coupled with A drop performance similar to R410A, is designed to make the refrigerant transition as easy as possible for OEMs without the need for radical alterations to the system, which accelerates time to market, both for cooling and for reversible systems as a whole.
The changes also allow OEMs to perform late line customizations and reduce stock inventories, increasing overall flexibility and ease of stock management.
Matthieu Stoll, A/C Marketing Director at Danfoss Cooling, said: "Around the world, the refrigerant transition is happening at different speeds. By using Danfoss DSH scroll compressors with IDV, OEMs can now respond to market changes more easily, whether it's new efficiency requirements or the phase-out of GWP. That's the ultimate flexibility. And with a GWP level of 466, R454B in particular can be seen as a potential long-term solution."
The benefits of the new and improved range of compressors include:
• Multi-refrigerant support for R454B and R452B, allowing for customization in the final stages of the late production line and reduced inventory with minimal redesign effort.
• Danfoss IDV technology enables higher partial charge efficiency,
• 10 models from 7.5 to 40 TR and a wide range of multiple options,
• Operational maps that adapt to a wide range of applications, both reversible and cooling only, including chillers and roof units.
R454B and R452B refrigerants are classified as A2L (slightly flammable) and are regulated by EN378 and IEC60335-2-40. Therefore, OEMs must take appropriate compliance measures in certain applications.
