International. This year will mark, for the first time, World Refrigeration Day, to be celebrated on 26 June with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
In Miami, RefriAméricas will join this initiative by celebrating the day with different talks and activities to share among all members of the industry.
In Spain, its celebration will take place at the Ateneo de Madrid, organized by the associations of the sector AEFYT (Association of Cold Companies and their Technologies) and AFEC (Association of Manufacturers of Air Conditioning Equipment), with the collaboration of AFAR (Association of Andalusian Refrigeration Manufacturers).
World Refrigeration Day has been instituted with the aim of raising the awareness of the international community about the role of this industry in supporting modern life and society.
Business and professional associations based in the United States, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and across Europe have already given formal support to date.
"This commemoration will bring the global community together to celebrate the success and achievements of the sector through a series of international events and a social media campaign," says the UK Refrigeration Institute.
The United Nations (UN) environmental agency reported that its 147 national units of the OzonAction division will promote seminars, workshops, trainings and competitions for professionals in the sector and end users of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
The British consultant Steve Gill, the main promoter of the anniversary, said at a meeting promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme:
"The refrigeration industry is often described as a hidden industry. Now, we have a day to raise awareness of the truly incredible work we do globally."
"Refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technologies and applications emerged from the human need for food, comfort and thermal processes. This is a story that goes back centuries, but for those of us who work in this industry, it's still a frustration not to receive due recognition."
