Mexico. InterSolar Mexico and The Green Expo teamed up for an event to be held September 3-5, 2019, at the Pepsi Center, World Trade Center in Mexico City, and organized by Solar Promotion International GmbH, Freiburg Management and Marketing International GmbH (FMMI) and Tarsus Mexico.
The organizers expect approximately 250 exhibiting companies from 12 countries and more than thirteen thousand visitors for both events. "We are excited about our partnership with The Green Expo. Together we will offer the industry the best renewable energy and green technology platform in Mexico," said Dr. Florian Wessendorf, Managing Director of Solar Promotion International GmbH and Daniel Strowitzki, CEO of Freiburg Management and Marketing International GmbH (FMMI).
"In its 27th edition, The Green Expo is excited to begin working with InterSolar to further strengthen the event for the Mexican and Central American markets. As Mexico's premier event on renewable energy and sustainable technologies, working with InterSolar is perfect for the market," said Paul St. Amour, Vice President for Latin America at Tarsus Mexico.
Market analysts have been optimistic about the development of the solar market in Latin America. Led by several key markets such as Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Argentina, the opportunities for solar PV are being driven by clean energy certificates, competitive auctions, corporate acquisitions and increased utilization of distributed generation.
Currently, the region has collectively installed more than 7 GW of solar PV. An additional 46 GW are expected to be developed by the end of 2022. Latin America will account for more than 10% of global solar demand by 2022.
The Mexican solar market is increasing
Mexico is one of the epicenters with solar deployment and dynamic growth potential. The Federal Government approved the General Law on Climate Change, with the aim that 35% of energy comes from renewable sources by 2024 and 50% by 2050. Accordingly, Mexico's solar resources are among the best in the world, with annual levels of solar irradiation between 4.4 kWh/m2 and 6.3kWh/m2. In mid-2018, the Ministry of Energy launched its 2018 edition of the National Program for the Development of the Electric System (PRODESEN 2018-2032). The program is used to show the country's energy demand for the next 15 years and predicts an investment of $11.906 billion in solar energy. The Ministry of Energy expects 11.6 GW of cumulative solar and 58.5 GW of clean energy to be reached by 2032. This places Mexico in fifth place in the new solar capacity expected for 2021, with 10,000 MW of capacity (a growth of 84%). Clean energy certificates, which apply to energy suppliers and industrial consumers, will increase from 7.4% in 2020 to 10.9% in 2021 and 13.9% in 2022.
Energy storage gains importance
Facility growth is also stimulating the energy storage market. One of the current global trends is the growth in large-scale projects that combine solar energy and storage in power plants. Business is booming within the area of smaller storage systems for home and commercial applications. For Central and South America, analysts predict that by 2025 more than 1.4 GW of energy storage will be installed in order to ensure security of supply to around six million homes, as well as industrial and commercial applications.
