Brazil. Trane was invited to present a case at the 15th Brazilian Congress of Energy Efficiency (COBEE). In this edition, Edson Ferrara (photo), Trane's Energy Services Manager in Brazil, spoke on the topic "Energy Solutions in Air Conditioning Systems" and presented the success story of Shopping Flamboyant.
The Flamboyant Shopping Center in Goiânia, with more than 132,000 m² of built area, is among the largest in Brazil. Through Trane's experience, the venture resulted in a reduction of about 36% in the energy bill. Edson Ferrara explained that, after developing an energy study, Trane evaluated the opportunity to make the plant more efficient and developed a customized plan to reduce electricity consumption, applying high efficiency equipment and automated management systems.
The Trane executive clarifies that each venture has its own characteristics that determine the ideal strategies for the implementation of a systems modernization project. "There are many opportunities for energy improvement in buildings. We have a specialized team to employ proper maintenance, automation systems to optimize the operation or assess the need for renovation of the entire ice water plant," Ferrara emphasizes.
The implementation of the project began with the change of equipment. Three 390 TR Chillers were replaced by Chillers with high energy efficiency screw compressors. In addition, the work was carried out on a turn key basis, leaving Trane responsible for all the execution. In the second phase, with the challenge of further improving the efficiency achieved, the automation system was designed, which allowed the combined operation of the chillers, pumps, towers and thermo accumulation tank in an optimized way.
"We are a reference in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system market. We possess the most advanced technology to optimize ice water plants", reinforces the Energy Services Manager.
The congress sought to address strategies for solving problems triggered by the economic crisis in Brazil, seeking the resumption of the growth of companies and industries in the country through investments in Energy Efficiency actions.
