Colombia. A new refrigeration project that brought remarkable achievements in energy savings and versatility in dispatch times was carried out by Refridcol for the avocado company Hass Colombia, dedicated to the packaging and marketing of this fruit.
90% of the production is destined to European countries such as: Holland, England, France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium Hence the importance of optimizing the conditions of its refrigeration plant in order to meet the demands of the international market of this company that has been strengthening the export to European countries and is seen in the need to increase storage capacity and optimize cold conditions.
Ensuring quality and having storage flexibility to optimize export times was the challenge taken on by Refridcol. The objective in the development of this new production plant was the realization of a fast pre-cooling room, with the capacity to reduce 16 tons of avocado from 25 to 5 degrees Celsius in 6 hours, with the possibility of partially loading the room adapting to the palletizing speed without having to use all the thermal capacity from the beginning, that is, with load modulation; this was achieved using equipment that distributes the load, which allows the room to work only with 4 pallets and a single equipment in case of low production, this represents greater versatility in the operation and great energy savings. The project is supported by international brands such as Metecno, bitzer, guntner, among others.
Juan David Restrepo, Manager of Hass Colombia, commented in this regard that "the development implemented allowed to increase the storage capacity from 80 positions to 160 positions, reduce product rejection and have flexibility in dispatch times increasing productivity".
