United States. According to President-elect Donald Trump's transition team, his administration will seek rapid mechanisms that allow them to withdraw from the global agreement to curb climate change.
Since his campaign, Trump repeatedly mentioned that global warming is a "hoax" and promised to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. In this move, his team has been working on finding the simplest way to get out of the agreement, but must evade the four-year procedure theoretically necessary to leave the pact.
According to the Reuters news agency, "the alternative is to send a letter of withdrawal from the 1992 Convention that is associated with the Paris Agreement, which would subtract the participation of the United States in both in a year, or issue a presidential order that erases Washington's signature of the agreement sealed in the French capital, detailed the anonymous source."
Many nations have expressed hope that the United States will remain attached to the pact. Morocco, hosting the current talks, said the deal that seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the second half of the century is strong enough to survive the U.S. exodus.
